Coalitions
Providence Student Union forms alliances with other youth organizations to generate more student voices and power.
Providence Alliance for Student Safety
The Providence Alliance for Student Safety (PASS) was started in December 2019 by the Alliance of Rhode Island Southeast Asians for Education (ARISE), Providence Student Union (PSU), and Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM) to fight for safe and healthy schools that treat our youth with dignity and respect. Our movement has grown, with the addition of new member organizations Youth in Action, Young Voices, and Rhode Island Urban Debate League. Our message has become more critical than ever due the rise of police violence in our country - we demand Counselors Not Cops in our schools.
OurSchoolsPVD
OurSchoolsPVD is an alliance of youth-led organizations and their allies with a goal of ensuring that state control of the Providence Public School District (PPSD) results in a racially just and equitable public education system for Providence youth and families. Grounded in our collective work, which for decades has pushed for asset-based, youth and community-driven visions for our public schools and communities, OurSchoolsPVD is excited to bring together an intergenerational alliance of grassroots organizations and allies in order to build the power we need to create the school system Providence youth and families deserve.
OurSchoolsPVD is currently led by a steering committee of representatives from the following organizations (listed in alphabetical order): Alliance of Rhode Island Southeast Asians for Education (ARISE), Providence Student Union (PSU), Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM), Rhode Island Urban Debate League (RIUDL), and Youth In Action (YIA).
Rhode Island Civic Learning Coalition
The RI Civic Learning Coalition (RICLC) is a multiracial, multiethnic, and multigenerational coalition committed to ensuring that all Rhode Islanders, including young people and those most marginalized from our democratic system, have equitable access to high-quality civic learning opportunities so that our democracy is one in which all people are empowered, participate and are heard.
