What is the Leadership Team?

The PSU Leadership Team is a year-long youth-led student position that allows Providence students to cultivate strong and effective leadership and decision-making skills to improve the quality of their education and their school environments. Students will use tools and organizing strategies provided by PSU to lead statewide campaigns, make decisions for the organization, and build a healthy, safe, and collaborative student community in Providence Public Schools and beyond. This job requires a minimum of 5 hours per week with a $18 pay rate. 

PSU Leadership team members will have the opportunity to:

  • Organize protests, rallies, events, and other direct actions.

  • Lead workshops, programs, and PSU teams.

  • Make important decisions for the organization.

  • Attend local or national events, conferences, and speaking opportunities. (Is subject to change.)

  • Build PSU Membership.

PSU Leadership Team Members will be expected to:

  • Work 5-10 hours a week. While the minimum is 5, ideally you are working an average of 7 hours a week.  

  • Attend two hour LT meetings on Thursdays  

  • Serve on either a committee, task force or campaign. We will describe what these are later in the application.

  • Come into the office, the position is not hybrid, you are expected to be in person, however virtual options can be provided if discussed in advance (sickness, certain extracurriculars, personal emergencies, etc...)

  • Be engaged - even though you’re not sure what you want to do, have an idea of what you may want to do.

  • Show up to support your team members. Your participation in their initiatives fosters a supportive culture and builds camaraderie. Also, there are often events that require all hands on deck, in these cases, even if it isn't your specific area of work, you will be expected to help out.

  • Take on a leadership role! - Take initiative. Commit to learning all roles necessary to run a meeting, event, protest, and support/better your community, etc... (these roles will include facilitation, agenda-planning, recruitment, mobilization, and more. If you don't know what all of these are, don't worry, we'll teach you)

  • Be a leader!

  • Be a rising freshman, sophomore, junior, senior attending a Providence high school, public or charter. Priority will be given to rising freshman, sophomore, and junior students.
